Editorial - Wednesday, November 13: Speak up for change

YOU don't have long to have your say in the Valley's half-day holiday schedule as discussed on page 5 of today's DEX.

And, I have to give a massive pat on the back to the Jacaranda Committee for shouting it from the rooftops this year that people must have their say if they want it to change back from an event day.

I think it's fair to say the committee missed the boat a little last year when this was first discussed and businesses that pushed for it to happen got in the council's ear and, quite rightly, got their way.

But once bitten, twice shy, the committee wasn't about to let go the opportunity to be the squeaky wheel this time round.

And it might be in luck with a section of the business community agreeing the half-day holiday is the way to go.

We may see the council call for submissions and get a serious response rather than the all-too-regular apathy.

So if you signed a petition or filled out one of those white forms, good on you. I hope you get your holiday back if that's what you're after.
