Splendour Awards II: Punters, trends, and artworks

THE musicians have had their turn. Here's the best of the punters, trends and artworks from this year's festival.

Best Artwork: The Skywhale

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it a turtle? Are those nipples? All ten of them?

The Skywhale was the biggest, tallest, fattest topic of conversation at Splendour 2014 and it presided over the festival like a mother hen over its chicks.

Best Space: The Barn

The best looking, most stylish, most intriguing space was, by far, the barn.

Don't take our word for it. Check out his pic above.

Must Be Seen To Be Believed Fashion AwardMeggings

This year, a number of strong, self-assured, courageous male punters donned the male version of leggings to the festival.

Meggings were hailed as the ultimate male fashion trend earlier this year but we doubted it would happen.

Well, it did.

The Itchy for the Sake of Fashion sub-category Award goes to the tall guy on woollen meggings. Ouch.

Best Fashion Trend: Face painting

Last year it was all about flowers, this year if you did not have dots on your face you did not exist.

Mostly in silver and gold, the patterns morphed from simple lines to intricate designs.

Most Awkward Moment:

The punter who got in trouble with security after pinching the backside of a female photographer.

Consumables

Short and sweet, we thought we'd hand out a few warm inner glows for food and drink.

Best Food: Baby Burger

"Now with 10% more baby" read their sign. Tasty and affordable festival food.

Best Drink (non-alcoholic): Brazilian 'Jungle Juice'

Despite the $7 organic lemonade being a serious contender to this award, the Jungle Juice was a hipster's dream: a base of cold 'mate' tea, spirulina and other exotic South American nutritious ingredients.

Never mind it is green.

Best Bar: Miss Saigon

In this place we felt as if we were at a small bar in South East Asia. Miss Saigon was a little venue with red dimmed lights and drunken, bad karaoke. We loved it.

It had a life of its own and we hope it is replicated somewhere in the Northern Rivers as an established venue.
