'Sportember' kicks off at McAuley

TODAY isn’t the first day of September. Well, not to the staff and students at McAuley Catholic College it isn’t anyway – this year they’re scrapping September and celebrating “Sportember” instead.

For the entire month, students and staff at the college will make it their mission to improve their lifestyles, through more activity and eating healthier.

The mastermind behind the inaugural Sportember is the school’s PDHPE teacher and owner of Xplode Personal Training, Craig Nipperess.

He said the main idea behind it was to teach the school’s students the value of leading a healthy lifestyle.

During the month, students will take part in daily lunchtime fitness challenges in year groups and against staff members, with the goal to accumulate 30 minutes of exercise every day of Sportember.

Plus, the school canteen will be serving special healthy food options such as smoothies and there would also be prizes for the healthiest lunches brought to school by a student.
