St Mary's special day honours dads

FATHER’S Day came a little early this year at St Mary’s Primary School in Grafton with students, dads and granddads gathering yesterday for a special event.

Beginning with a breakfast put on by the school, about 50 dads, grandfathers and carers joined their children for a liturgy, followed by a swag of games and sports including soccer, T-ball and more.

School principal Yvonne Rincheval said the parents and kids had a blast and that the day had an important message.

“It’s about recognising the important role fathers, grandfathers and males in particular play in the children’s lives,” Ms Rincheval said.

“It’s a wonderful way for the children to have their dads and grandfathers at school with them in a different capacity than what they usually would be.”
