Star recruits come out to play in trials
A host of big-name stars will be in action this weekend as NRL coaches use a series of trials to fine-tune their squads for next month's opening round of matches.
Thirteen NRL clubs will play trial games, including Manly, which has named new recruit Martin Taupau in a pack that includes another major off-season signing, former Titans prop Nate Myles, in its squad to play the Ipswich Jets at Pittwater Park in Sydney.
Warriors coach Andrew McFadden has stacked his side with stars for their trial against the Dragons at Nelson's Trafalgar Park today.
New fullback Roger Tuivasa-Sheck will look to shake off his sluggish form at the recent Auckland Nines, where teammates Shaun Johnson, Solomone Kata, Tuimoala Lolohea and new captain Ryan Hoffman stood out.
The Bulldogs, with Josh Reynolds and Moses Mbye in the halves and a huge forward pack headed by Sam Kasiano, David Klemmer and Tony Williams, will face a Melbourne Storm side at Belmore missing only Billy Slater at fullback.
A lot of interest will focus on Cronulla's trial with the Wests Tigers, who have named Robbie Farah at starting hooker under new captain Aaron Woods.
Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan has stuck with Jack Bird at fullback, naming Valentine Holmes on the wing with new buy James Maloney in the halves, alongside Chad Townsend.
Ben Barba has been included on a strong bench which includes David Fifita and Chris Heighington.
