Star-studded Victory plans to tame Tigers

THEY might be short on match fitness but A-League premiers Melbourne Victory won't be short on talent for tonight's FFA Cup round-of-32 clash against Balmain Tigers in Sydney.

Coach Kevin Muscat has named nine players from the squad that beat Sydney FC in last season's A League grand final, including star striker Besart Berisha, Brazilian Gui Finkler and club champion Fahid Ben Khalfallah.

Former Perth Glory keeper Danny Vukovic (pictured) has been named to make his debut in goals for the Victory.

Muscat said he certainly wouldn't be taking Balmain lightly.

"Like every opposition, we've shown them the utmost respect," he said.

"We have had someone watch them. The reports have come back. We want to go as deep as we possibly can.

"The players have understood that. The amount of information we've given them is an indication of how seriously we are taking the game.

"We want to be in the hat come the round of 16."

The Tigers are fourth in the New South Wales State League this season with a record of nine wins, two draws and eight losses.

Melbourne City will also play its first FFA Cup game this season when it takes on northern NSW club Edgeworth FC tonight at Broadmeadow in Victoria for a last-16 spot.

Despite City naming a squad that includes new signing, Socceroos defender Ivan Franjic, Erik Paartalu, Michael Zullo and Aaron Mooy, Edgeworth coach Damien Zane said his team would not be intimidated.

"We're pretty solid defensively. That's where we see we can stay in the game," he said. "We're quite quick and positive going forward. We have some dangerous guys in the front third."
