Stars aligned to draw big crowd for Jaca Venetian Carnival
GOOD weather, tradition and the cream of the Valley's talent combined to draw an impressive crowd to the river bank at Memorial Park, Grafton on Friday night.
Though there were many highlights - standout performances included a pair of young guitarists from Maclean (Nick Hansen and Sam Cashman), the Ablaze fire-twirling and fire-breathing performance, Siskin River (accompanied by Aussie music luminary Nicky Bomba) and the fireworks display that was reportedly worth $5000.
Young guitar maestros Nick and Same, both 14, said it was their first Jacaranda Festival but were clearly riding a wave of success after winning their section of the Jacaranda Busking Competition on Thursday, performing at the Venetian Carnival on Friday night and then playing Picnic in the Park at Market Square on Saturday evening.
They gave kudos to their guitar teacher Ryan Enns, who also played on the Venetian stage with satirical renditions of his own songs the Pacific Hwy Blues and, without checking the title, The Poo and Spew Song.
Local band FDZ played and dancers from Studio One Academy, Big River Rockers, South Grafton High and Grafton Junior Physical Culture also shared the stage in a smorgasbord of talent.
Trevor Green and Amanda Crawford performed a memorable dance.
