Watch as stranded humpback returns to ocean

A HUMPBACK whale stranded on a Gold Coast beach has been returned to the ocean with the help of rescuers this morning.

As of 8am, those involved managed to straighten up the whale so it was facing out to sea.

It managed to make it about 30m off the sand before being swept back on the beach.

 

 

The juvenile whale was stuck on the beach for an estimated 36 hours.

It's understood to be only the young whale's second trip north.

Live helicopter footage from Channel 7's Sunrise program this morning showed the whale being shifted into the ocean, then beginning to swim.

Crowds lined Palm Beach to see the successful rescue.
