Strong contingent qualify for nationals

PHYSICAL CULTURE: The Clarence Valley is set to be well represented at the upcoming physical culture Junior National Championships hosted at the famed Bjelke-Petersen School of Physical Culture in Sydney.

Six representatives from the Grafton Physical Culture Club will contest the Australian titles after advancing among the top five in their field at the recent Far North Coast Championships which were held at Coffs Harbour.

Eleven Clubs contested the regional Championships with Grafton, along with Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie, being the three biggest clubs atending. Clubs from as far north as Ballina, south to Camden Haven and west to Tenterfield contested what turned out to be a very big weekend of very high standard performances.

Most sections had anywhere from 40 to 70 girls in their section, so getting a place was a great effort and reaching the final or semi-final also was not easy. But Grafton still managed to get six through the competition and these girls will continue to practice hard as they ready to represent Grafton and the Far North Coast/Mid North Coast at these titles.

Five-year-old Bridie McGrath reached the final of her age section and in the six years Paige Tilse also reached the final. Meanwhile in the seven years age group Mia Bathgate and Yuna Stavely-Alexander both did a great job getting through to the finals.
