Student injured in roof fall

A GRAFTON High School Year 9 student was hospitalised yesterday when he fell through a skylight after climbing onto the school canteen roof.

Department of Education media adviser Sven Wright said the incident occurred at 2.30pm during an outdoor PE lesson.

He said the student climbed onto the flat single-storey canteen roof, ignoring a teacher’s direction not to do so.

The teacher told the student to get down and the student fell through a Perspex skylight onto the canteen area floor

When the staff member got to the student, he found the student had lost consciousness.

Staff and a student sought help for the injured student and an ambulance and parents were called. The student regained consciousness by the time the ambulance arrived and he was taken to Grafton Base Hospital to have his injuries assessed.
