Stunned by cancer diagnosis just five days from her wedding

FIVE days out from her wedding, the only worry a bride should have is making it down the aisle without tripping.

But for Meaghin McIntyre, that was the least of her concerns.

On June 2 - only days before her big day - the 37-year-old Sippy Downs woman was diagnosed with stage four cervical cancer that had spread to the surrounding tissue and lymph nodes.

Within a few weeks, Meaghin had met with a Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital gynaecologist and an oncologist and had all the necessary scans.

She has just undergone the second of six rounds of double-dose chemotherapy.

An administration officer in the community aged-care sector, Meaghin is working reduced hours while she is still up to it but knows there will come a time when she just won't be able to continue.

"We are doing pretty well," she said.

"We are staying positive just like everyone else does in this sort of situation. I am taking each day as it comes.

"So far I have had no nausea or vomiting from the chemo, but I get lethargic.

"Everyone has a different reaction to it."

A fundraiser organised by friends and family was held recently to help with the loss of income and the medical expenses.

Meaghin said she was humbled by the work that had gone into the event and thankful for all the support.

On August 15 there will be another fundraiser, Light up the Lake for Meaghin, at Lake Kawana from 6.30pm.

Meaghin said she and Scott still had so many questions for the doctors as the time between diagnosis and treatment had been so short.
