STYLEwise: Time to enjoy your fringe benefits
I'M bored... I'm over it... I want a change!
Just some of the things we hear from clients in our salon every day.
And change they should... after all, it's hair, it grows back!
In fact, we like to offer change, however small it may be, to our clients regularly.
One of the simplest, yet most dramatic changes one can make to their hair is adding a fringe. Yes, that's right, the humble fringe.
Now I don't mean the box fringe you had in all your school photos that your mum used to design using sticky tape and the sewing scissors.
Fringes are back as the main event in hair styles, and in many cases they are the "mane" attraction.
Adding a fringe to your hairstyle gives you the opportunity to balance or enhance your facial features. You can add definition to your face shape in much the same way you can apply make up to either accentuate or play down facial features.
Selecting the type of fringe to suit is as easy as knowing your face shape, which truly is paramount in choosing any style that will look great on you and that you will be happy with.
If you do not know your face shape and would like to, then you can either ask your stylist when you visit or give us a shout on our Facebook page and we will post a how-to for you to work it out yourself.
Other things to consider when choosing the fringe for you will be your hair texture and condition, the amount of time and skill you have for styling, and finally, the image you want to create.
Today's fringe is so much about customising - choose your elements, making it a feature by adding colour in the form of Pastel edging, funky panels and block colour totally different to that of the rest of the hair.
Adding colour to your fringe can be a great preliminary step for you if you have never had colour in your hair.
You are treating a relatively small area that will grow out quickly and you can change it around more often.
For those of you who have always wanted to try a fringe but have unruly, curly or frizzy hair, then consider this: A keratin smoothing treatment on just your fringe is an inexpensive way to try keratin, and is the perfect solution to taming the wild beast and totally changing your entire look.
So go on be brave, step out of your comfort zone and bang in a fringe, pardon the pun.
P.S. For those of you worried about how you will grow it out once you are ready for another change, it's as simple as cutting corners (insert smiley face here).
