Success is simply bliss for muso

MACKAY musician Candice Arlott - AKA Miss Bliss - is making quite the impression in the Australian music industry.

Her song Cement Dreams has gone to number one on Triple J's Unearthed digital radio pop chart and number seven on the overall chart since it was uploaded three weeks ago.

Ms Arlott, 23, said she began singing with her family nine years ago.

"People have said my music is different," she said.

"People that happen to find me (on the website) have been giving me five out of five ratings.

"It's really exciting."

Ms Arlott said she had already worked with big names in the Australian music industry.

"When I was 18, Daniel Jones from Savage Garden started working with me," she said.

"He's still a good friend and I learnt a lot from him.

"His studio was full of Arias; I would rub them for good luck.

"From then I started working with my producer; he has a lot to do with Triple J.

"(Unearthed) is a good forum for unsigned artists.

"It gives (independent) artists the chance to get out there."

Ms Arlott said she'd be touring nationally and internationally next year.

"I'm in the process of doing an EP (extended play; a limited number of songs that doesn't qualify as an album)," she said.

"My album will be out next year. I'll go to the studio (in Melbourne) for two to three weeks (at a time while recording)."

Ms Arlott said she idolised fellow Aussie acts Gotye and Sia.

"Gotye is number one in the US right now," she said.

"He's been on (American TV show) Saturday Night Live. "No other Australian artist has done that."

Ms Arlott performs at CBD Hotel McGuires on Thursday nights.

"I'm trying to get local people to come support me," she said.

"I want to build my fan base in Mackay."
