Success no mean feet

NATALIE Miller and Ben Nothling have the world at their feet.

And for this power couple, feet mean business.

The husband-and-wife team, aged 37 and 30 respectively, are the masterminds behind Noosa-based label Holster.

Credited with reinventing the humble jelly sandal, Holster shoes have won the hearts of footwear fans from Saudi Arabia to Singapore.

"We knew our idea had a local resonance, but was also a powerful vehicle for global growth," Ben said.

The Holster empire has now spread across 50 countries, with their footwear and bags being embraced by the likes of Dannii Minogue and Rachael Finch.

As the brand prepares to reach half a million pairs of shoes sold around the world, Natalie and Ben took time out for a chat while jetting between trade shows.

Ben explains that, despite their hectic schedules, he and Natalie are a regular couple, whose shared passions have helped them balance work and family.

They met at a job interview over a decade ago and realised that they shared a mutual love of travel, creativity and style.

"From when we first met, we have always worked together so it is normal for us," Ben said.

"We both have different roles in the company and bounce ideas off each other."

Style is in both his and Natalie's blood, with his wife having an appetite for all things fashionable since childhood.

Despite their international business success, the couple still love the laidback beach lifestyle of the Sunshine Coast and have lived in Noosa for 12 years.

The tranquil surroundings of the beach and bush help them unwind, with Ben naming stand-up paddle boarding and bushwalks as their favourite shared pastimes.

"I also love relaxing with offshore fishing and surfing," he said.

The couple will soon be celebrating their sixth wedding anniversary, joined by two-year-old son, Miller.

Ben says that he and Natalie are "absolute animal lovers", sharing their home with dogs Angel and Bali, the latter being named after a favourite holiday destination.

The pair of passionate globetrotters often travel to attend international trade fairs and visit overseas suppliers.

"We've been to Vomo Island in Fiji, Queensland's Lizard Island and Lake Como in Italy for inspiration," Ben said.

Their experiences abroad have helped foster a strong cultural awareness in the couple, who sponsor two children in Africa, and "strongly believe in giving something back".
