JESSICA Davies has a never-ending list of "what if" questions swirling through her head.

The pain of losing her grandfather, father, uncle and brother, all to suicide is still raw.

The most recent was her father, who at age 55 ended his life in April last year.

Her brother Adam committed suicide two years earlier.

"Losing a family member is one thing, but losing someone to suicide is a whole different realm," Jessica said.

"No one understands what you are going through. Your whole body physically hurts and it is so raw."

But the 33-year-old Coolum Beach woman has not let her run of family tragedy bring her down, instead turning the negative into a positive change in the community.

As an R U OK? Australian Ambassador, Jessica is sharing the message that it is okay to talk about the signs of suicide.

Today on R U OK? Day, Australians are encouraged to regularly and meaningfully ask "are you okay?" of anyone struggling with life.

Jessica is especially passionate about bringing the issue of mental health out of the shadows and encouraging men to talk about their lives and feelings after losing four very special men in her life.

"My brother, although not clinically diagnosed, I suspect was going through some mental health issues and he was trying to work through that," Jessica said.

"My uncle and father both had terminal illnesses. My brother and my Dad were introverts and didn't want to burden the world with their problems."

Jessica, who works for Unitywater, hopes to take her work with R U OK? around Australia to form focus and support groups as well as educating at schools and supporting families who have lost loved ones to suicide.
