Sunny stage is set for unique Soundscape
THE sun is forecast to shine on today's Soundscape event in Pillar Valley, and organiser Sam Conderman is hoping it rings true.
It will be his second attempt to hold the family-friendly drug and alcohol free event at the Tanamon Galley site in Pillar Valley, after torrential downpours last year caused it to be postponed.
For those who are wondering what Soundscape is, it is essentially a live fusion of art and music.
Held at the Tanamon Gallery site in the Pillar Valley hills, the public event will see 26 Northern Rivers artists converge on the property for a unique jam session with Gold Coast indie band A French Butler Called Smith, who play a unique brand of gypsy funk.
As soon as they pick up their instruments at noon, the artists will follow suit with their own equipment, and over four hours will create an artwork based on the performance, all of which will be auctioned off in a silent auction by 5pm.
The winning artwork will be chosen by the band, who will then acquire the image for promotional purposes, and the winning artist will score $1200 for their troubles.
Soundscape will also serve as the first public preview of Mr Conderman's open-air gallery.
"After months of preparation and dedicated hours from our hard-working team the stage is set and ready to grace our local artists and gypsy musicians from the Gold Coast," he said.
Entry to Soundscape, at 1125 Firth Heinz Rd, Pillar Valley, is $20. Gates open at 11am and food will be available at the site.
