Super night out for Oldies

SOCCER: Tucabia were too strong for Grafton Thunder in the first game of the night.

It would be no surprise to anyone that Santi scored five in the 7-4 final scoreline.

His ability to stay calm under pressure and always be in the right place at the right time was an inspiration to all SOS followers. Chicken legs (M Hewitt) chased him so hard her hair fell out.

Other goalscorers were G Falconer, M Shannon, A Simmons (2), J Endean and V Young.

Road Runners took to the field with only seven players in their game against the Blues.

They were then able to convince Mick Skinner to fill in, in what turned out to be a well-made substitution.

The Roadies started strongly but couldn’t find the goals. The second half saw the Jailbirds started to exert their authority in attack with the 2m centre-forward hard to mark on the corners.

Substitute Mick then got the ball on the back post from a long corner and headed it past the keeper for a tight 1-0 win to the Roadies.

Odd Balls fought out a tight match against ALS in a game that was played at a frantic pace.

Keith Grant’s dominance in the middle was the difference between the teams as he scored two and set up several others.

Alissa Fletcher and E Hegedy won the player’s awards.

The Saps and Summer Sirens played out a very social game on field 8 with the referee having trouble controlling the game between fits of laughter.

Cathy Browning scored the goal when she beat the defence to score the first of her two.

Other scorers were Chris Adamson, Michael Bowles and T Revell.

Saps finished 5-3 in front on the scoreline but the girls gave them a run for their money.

Australia finished 4-3 in front on the scoreline in a very physical game.

It was the referee however who came in for praise in the way he controlled the game - well done Trent.

S Wallace (2), R Green (2), Chris Matthers, and Ruth Sullivan (2) were the goal scorers with Ruth also getting the referee’s pick for best player.

Happy Campers finished 3-2 in front of Country Energy in an entertaining match on field 5.

Chris, Andy and Paul Stockton scored for the Campers with Mel Davis and Dave Bender keeping the winner’s honest.

Gut Hamilton and Nanessa won the player’s awards.

XVII dominated their match against Grafton Lighting, showing beautiful skill and finishing to finish 6-2 up on the scoresheet. M Hayes and L Ward won player’s awards.

Similarly Hanks Kitchen finished 4-1 in front of Flat Whites.

Dani Cogle and C Simmons each scored a goal and won their teams player’s award.

Some of the referees are forgetting to write some notes on the back of the match cards so I ask team managers to please help them note some of the interesting highlights of the match and put your teams name in print.
