Superstars spring upset in decider

SAILORS Superstars produced the upset of the day to down minor premiers Gummy Bears 4-3 in their Grafton Women's Primary Girls' Hockey grand final on Saturday.

Sailors had not beaten the Gummy Bears in the regular season but past results meant nothing in the premiership decider.

Gummy Bears started well with L Breadsell scoring the first of her three goals for the day to establish a 1-0 lead.

The two sides then traded goals with Sailors hitting the front in the closing stages.

L Eichmann scored a double for Sailors while M Lecchi and B Jackson also scored.

In the Division 2 grand final, minor premiers Sailors Angels were untroubled by an under-strength South Sapphires, running out 3-0 winners.

Due to sickness South Sapphires had to call up some mods players and while they performed very well, Sailors Angels were too strong on the day.

E Firth, G Kroehnert and L Sear scored for Sailors Angels.

In the Division 1 decider, Grafton Primary School Allstars beat schoolmates Dominators 5-1.

The teams were evenly matched in the early stages but it didn't take long before the goals started to come with Allstars then taking control.

Grace Clark led the way for Allstars with a goal-scoring double while Shelby Faulstone, Meg Porra and Katie Porra also got on the scoreboard. Phoebe Brown scored Dominators' only goal.

The final was part of a busy week for the Grafton Primary School players.

Players from both Allstars and Dominators combined to represent the school in the PSAA clash against South Tamworth on Monday.

Grafton won 3-2 to advance to the championship final to be played in Lithgow.

Meanwhile, to umpires Shannon Powell (mods), Gemma Clark and Kelsie Leek (div 2) and Chloe Duroux and Chloe Campbell (div 1) thank you for very high standard of umpiring on show in the grand finals on Saturday.

Many thanks also to the TB Kerry Barton, Judy Knox, Robyn Anderson.
