Surf club to send record number of competitors to titles
SURF LIFE SAVING: Minnie Water-Wooli Surf Life Saving Club is sending its largest ever contingent to the NSW Country Surf Life Saving Championships at South West Rocks this weekend.
The club will be represented by 17 nippers, one cadet member and two senior members and has teams entered in a number of events.
Our nippers have been training four times a week leading up to the championships, which is a great effort considering all of the representatives live 50km or more from the beach.
We would like to thank Geoff Brodin and Tony Dougherty for all the time they have spent teaching our nippers the skills they require to be competitive nippers and future lifesavers.
We have some great chances of medals in the water and on the beach. Our nippers have shown great determination and improvement this year.
The Gallagher brothers Tevan (U10) and Jordan (U13) have been consistently placing in the top three in water events at North Coast Branch carnivals throughout the 2015/16 season.
North Coast Branch representative Matthew Parkin (U13) and his sister Morgen (U15) are equally consistent.
Matthew and Jordan will team up with Cody Hinterholzl and Ashleigh Ensbey to compete in team events in the Under-13s.
Molly and Bessie Dungey, Jack Lougher, Taj O’Mahony, Grace Crapp, Henry Derrick and Octavius Corcoran will be representing the club in Under-11s.
We have some very strong swimmers and board paddlers in this age group, making for strong teams and several chances for individual medals.
Representing our Under-10s are Mackenna Ensbey, Sophie Hinterholzl, Bodhi Derrick and Tevan Gallagher. Makenna is extremely strong in the beach events, having won the flags and sprints on a number of occasions at branch level. All are very competitive in the board and swim events.
Our mighty Under-9s competitors are Josslyn Brown and Xavier Corcoran. Josslyn is an extremely determined nipper, strong in the water and on the beach, and another consistent place getter at carnivals. Xavier is improving every week and has a bright future in surf lifesaving.
Our two senior members making the journey to South West Rocks to compete at Country are Tony Dougherty and Deborah Parkin.
Tony has several years experience in surf lifesaving and is making a much anticipated return to competition, while Deb competed in her first carnival last weekend.
Best of luck to all competitors on the weekend.
