Suspension of rising star to hit the Suns hard

GOLD Coast looks set to be without key forward Tom Lynch for the round one clash against Melbourne after he copped a one-match ban from the NAB Challenge game against Greater Western Sydney.

Lynch, regarded as one of the rising stars of the competition, was charged with engaging in rough play against Matt Buntine during the 36-point loss at Blacktown Oval.

Any penalty cannot be served in the pre-season competition. The news was better for North Melbourne recruit Jarrad Waite who had his report for high contact thrown out.

The former Blue was reported by the field umpire for his aggressive high spoil on Hawthorn defender Ben Stratton in Sunday's NAB Challenge game, but the match review panel found the 32-year-old's contact was not forceful enough to constitute a reportable offence.

North Melbourne beat the premiers by 13 points.
