Suzan finds sew much pleasure and turns it into business

SUZAN Stewart has known her way around a sewing machine since she was a kid.

But it was only a hobby until three years ago when she decided to start her own business.

Suzan grew up in Alice Springs and had plans to take her sewing skills to Adelaide after high school and head to fashion school.

Instead, life saw Suzan become a fitter and turner - putting her passion for a career in sewing on the back burner.

Since then she has tried and tested several different careers.

"I owned an ice cream shop for a couple of years, worked in advertising and went into dry cleaning for a while," Suzan said.

In the end, she went back to her roots and made sewing her career.

In 2011, Suzan opened her business, I Sew.

"I didn't realise I'd be moving out of a shop after 18 months and into a bigger one with staff members," she said.

Suzan and her staff are passionate about what they do and take pride in every piece they sew.

"We're like a hairdressers; you need to book because sewing doesn't happen overnight," Suzan said. "We take pride in our work and don't want to rush it.

"I love sewing because it's a sense of achievement. Seeing the pleasure on people's faces after we've created something for them is amazing."

I Sew is located at 1 - 176 Berserket St, Rocky.
