AFL: Less than a month after playing for Sydney in the grand final, Xavier Richards has been axed by the club.

The Victorian half-forward, who kicked 13 goals in 10 games for the minor premiers this season, made an unsuccessful bid to find a new club during the recent trade period after turning down a two-year contract to remain a Swan.

He has followed older brother Ted out the door after the premiership defender retired last month.

The younger Richards will now look to be picked up during the delisted free agency period, which starts on Tuesday.

His manager, Phil Mullen, has confirmed there had been "some interest” for the 23-year-old's services.

Hawthorn, meanwhile, has axed injury-prone defender and 2014 premiership hero Matt Spangher and ruck-forward Jack Fitzpatrick, who kicked the match-winning goal against Collingwood in round 23.
