Swifts confident of continuing bright start to season
NETBALL: NSW Swifts coach Rob Wright is backing his team to cause another Super Netball upset, this time against the Vixens.
Following a succession of player departures, the Swifts are the least experienced of any of the eight teams in the new, Australia-based competition.
But, led by England international Helen Housby, the Swifts gave premiership contenders the Giants a run for their money in opening weekend of the competition before taking down the Adelaide Thunderbirds to sit third on the ladder.
"As a group, the Vixens are in their third year together so it would be an upset if we beat them for sure," Wright said. "But I feel we match up quite well against them, we play quite similar styles, nice and clean, fast, and it's always a good spectacle."
The Swifts meet the Vixens in the second match of a double-header in Melbourne on Saturday night, with the Magpies hosting league leaders the GWS Giants in the first game of the evening.
The match will pit former Swifts teammates Kim Green (Giants), Susan Pettitt (Giants), Sharni Layton (Magpies) and Caitlin Thwaites (Magpies) against each other for the first time since playing in last year's grand final against the Queensland Firebirds.
