Sydney FC shooting for second straight Premiers' Plate

FOOTBALL: Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe reckons Sydney FC might already have their second straight Premiers' Plate wrapped up.

Lowe had to suffer a 6-0 loss at Sydney's Allianz Stadium on Saturday night with the Sky Blues putting in their most complete performance of the season so far, and he was impressed.

"In the last three games they've scored four, three and five but they weren't awfully impressive, yet they won the games comfortably,” Lowe said.

"They were very impressive tonight and won the game comfortably.

"So if they're not impressive and they win, and they are impressive and they win, they're going to be a tough team to stop.”

The win, thanks mainly to a hat-trick from Brazilian striker Bobo, puts Graham Arnold's men eight points clear of the Newcastle Jets at the top of the A-League ladder heading into the new year.

If they can defeat the Jets on Wednesday night they will extend that lead to 11 at the halfway mark of the campaign.

Sydney finished 2017 having won 29 A-League games from 35 to earn 91 points from a possible 105 in the calendar year.

Lowe said Sydney were "without a doubt” one of the best teams he had seen in the A-League, comaparing them to Ange Postecoglou's all-conquering Brisbane Roar.

"Brisbane were superb in their day,” he said.

"Brisbane probably passed you to death, but these guys on transition, they sit in, they're so disciplined.

"They're just a bloody good side. Once you open up, if you don't stay structured and disciplined like we should have done, they'll pick you off with the quality they've got.”

Arnold was finally content after a few less-than polished performances from his team, but not the least bit surprised.

"Not being arrogant or anything, but I challenged the boys this week,” Arnold said.

"I wrote on the board, '6-0', and all through the week at training I kept saying to them 'we will win 6-0. It's time'.”
