'SuperTed' set to return to the BBC as the latest revival of popular children's television shows

A show featuring a talking skeleton with an effeminate voice, an overweight character called "Bulk" and a girl called "Blotch" with less than perfect skin is being revived by the BBC children's department for a 26 episode remake.

Welcome back SuperTed, the less than politically correct story of a Welsh teddy bear with cosmic powers.

Known to children of the '80s as an improbable superhero, the animated and anthropomorphic toy is expected to return to the small screen in 2016 after an absence of 30 years.

It is the latest in a series of popular children's shows from a bygone era being revived for a new generation. Thunderbirds, The Wombles, The Clangers, Dangermouse, Bob the Builder and Teletubbies are also undergoing revivals.

11-year-old sees off robber attempting to steal Playstation

NOT many adults would have acted as boldly as 11-year-old Sam Connolly did when coming face to face with a robber.

The schoolboy from Brassall confronted an intruder after he arrived home and heard a loud noise downstairs.
Sam said he got home as usual shortly before 3pm on Thursday.

"I looked downstairs and there was someone there so I walked to the kitchen and grabbed a bike handle bar," he said.

"The man looked at me and I told him to leave, he didn't so I hit him over the head with it.

Oscar Pistorius makes bizarre Twitter appearance

OSCAR Pistorius has broken his social media silence with four bizarre tweets - the first since the anniversary of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp's death.

The former Paralympic athlete sent out the strange messages to his 354,000 followers on Sunday night (13 July) and Monday morning (14 July), including a collage of pictures of him posing with amputee children and another asking God to "bathe those who live in pain in the river of your healing".

Father claims kingdom so girl can be a 'princess'

JEREMIAH Heaton was playing with his daughter in their Abingdon, Va., home last winter when she asked whether she could be a real princess.

Mr Heaton, a father of three who works in the mining industry, didn't want to make any false promises to Emily, then six years old, who was "big on being a princess". But he still said yes.

"As a parent you sometimes go down paths you never thought you would," he said.
Within months, Mr Heaton had travelled to an unclaimed 800-square-mile patch of arid desert between Egypt and Sudan. There, on 16 June  - Emily's seventh birthday - he planted a blue flag with four stars and a crown on a rocky hill.
