Editorial - Wednesday, May 21: Take your turn, step up

ONE of the phrases you hear often is: "Someone should do something about that."

Often it is not clear who that someone is, but people are certain that something needs to be done to fix a certain situation.

Sometimes they are more specific, and say the government should do something; the council should do something; even the Examiner should do something.

Often, though, it is out of any government or newspaper's hands to fix problems.

We at the paper can highlight what needs to be done and get people motivated, but the budget doesn't stretch much further.

Tony and Shai Karouhanis saw something that needed to be done and did something about it.

Rathgar Lodge is a landmark residence on the south side of Grafton, but had gradually fallen into ruin.

Instead of calling on others to take action, the Karouhanises have invested a lot of their time and money and seem to have done a great job in restoring the old building.

It is a job which should earn them the thanks of their community.
