Talismanic Tubby on hand for Rebels' first win

RUGBY LEAGUE: Former Baggy Green wearer and stalwart of the Channel 9 cricket commentary box Mark 'Tubby' Taylor believes he has become a bit of a talisman for the South Grafton Rebels.

The cricket legend was on hand for the Rebels first match of the season on Sunday at McKittrick Park which was much the same last season.

"I made the first game last year and they won that, and then they went on to win the premiership so I am hoping it is the same again this year," Taylor said.

"I thought they played really well. I get the run down from John Matthews, my brother-in-law, and he said they haven't had a lot of training together and they have had a few pre-season games washed out or called off.

"So he wasn't sure how they would play but I thought they played very well. They are very good in attack, I mean fifty-odd points, they have a good lot of talent out there."

Tubby is now on holidays from the Channel 9 commentary box and "very much enjoying it". Expect him back next summer.
