Tamworth camp a hockey treat

FIVE of our under-14 girls have spent part of the holidays at a talent camp run by Hockey NSW and OzSports, which was held at the Tamworth Hockey Centre last week.

Bianca Sedger (goalie), Bridget Mawhirt, Justine Newman, Taylah Hamilton and Jemma Clark enjoyed three big days of fitness, drills and games. An individual profile report was presented to each participant at the conclusion of the camp, which covered individual skills, team skills, fitness as well as comments on strengths, areas for improvement and advanced skills.

These opportunities benefit our players and our competitions.

Minkey hockey will continue on Saturday, April 30, starting at 10.30am (for about one hour) on Lower Fisher Park near the big tree. Boys and girls who are five years of age or under, who can hold a stick and hit a ball are most welcome to attend. Registration fees for minkey are $20 for the year which covers the relevant insurances and the provision of equipment. As well, children are asked to contribute $1 each week towards a party at the end of the hockey season. So come on, parents, give hockey a go. Come on down, we may discover another hockey star like Brent Livermore.

Clarence Valley Council (CVC) has advised that clubs wishing to train on Lower Fisher Park will need to make a formal booking with CVC. There is no charge for a training booking from Monday to Friday. A booking is required to ensure that your preferred spot is available to your club teams when you want it. To make a booking you will need to contact Natalie Sear at CVC by telephoning 66430238.

Comp registrar, Leisa Sedger, requires all team detail sheets and registration sheets. Any outstanding forms are already overdue. May 14 is the cut off for anyone to withdraw or to be added to teams. After that all new players must be added with a new player registration and NSW rego form.

Opens squad training will continue this Sunday at 9am on the grass fields meet under the big tree below the old sand turf. The squad is as follows: Nardie Pollock, Kate Hearn, Shelly Pole, Maddy Ritchie, Olivia Morrison, Emma Thompson, Kirralee Monkhouse, Anna Brotherson, Sally-Jane Loy, Jess Edwards, Jade Hewitt, Sophie Watt, Abbey Watt, Lianne Watkins, Kara Davies, Ashlee Blanchard. If you are unable to attend this Sunday please let Liesa know. Anyone that is not in this squad and wishes to trial please contact Liesa on 0478 060 921.

Under-13 squad selections will be held this Sunday at 3pm. Selection trials will run for the next three Sundays. Managers and coaches are needed for the Under-13s teams as well as for the Vets. Vets nomination forms are to be handed in to the sectors by Saturday. The forms are in the big green folder in the pavilion. If you cannot find them please ask any of the executive or the selectors.

Players and supporters are asked to pick up their rubbish after each game. There have been no bins down on the grass fields but it is important that we leave our fields clean and tidy. Due to safety concerns, dogs and skateboards are not to be brought down to the hockey fields. The children riding skateboards around the cement areas of the pavilion causes many safety concerns. Parents are warned that their child's skateboard will be removed by the committee members. Dogs are also causing safety issues and people should leave their pets at home. All coaches/managers MUST wear correct footwear when their teams are playing on the turf. Sandals, thongs and scuffs are not permitted due to safety reasons. The teams that play the late games on the grass are reminded that they need to bring in the nets and return them to the storage container behind the pavilion. Clubs which wish to decorate the pavilion posts in their team colours need to contact Bruce.
