Gunman recorded on tape praying moments before shooting

AN ACCUSED gunman was recorded praying in Arabic and asking for protection from being arrested moments before a man was shot outside a Sydney nightclub, police have alleged.

Detectives investigating an alleged assassination attempt on a 52-year-old man, who was shot in the back, foot and groin at Rydalmere in May, have released a tape recording, taken from a van which was allegedly stolen on the night of the shooting.

The victim told police he was walking to his car outside a club on Bridge St when he was approached by two men who allegedly shot him.

He suffered critical injuries.
