Taste for young entrants
GRAFTON'S Junior Jacaranda Queen candidates had their first chance to see one of the perks of winning the crown when they attended a Beatles-themed party at I Scream on Prince St in Friday.
I Scream owner Jeff Smith said about 100 people turned up to the fundraising event which collects money for the Jacaranda Festival.
All six Junior Queen hopefuls attended and had the chance to see first hand the dessert Mr Smith created in honour of last year's winner, Courtney McKew.
The dessert, which is called Courtney's Crowning Glory, features three scoops of ice cream, nuts and a special purple sauce that Mr Smith said had a citrus flavour.
And of course this year's winner will get to help invent their own dessert too.
Mr Smith was very pleased with how the night went.
"It was great we had rock'n'roll dancing on the pavement and Big River Pizza came across and sold pizza by the slice," he said.
"Hip Hop Downunder did the sound and lighting as well."
The candidates had one of their first chances to try to impress the judges on the night.
Rumour had it a handful of "secret judges" were randomly distributed throughout the crowd.
