Teams hit scales for contest

THE DOUGHERTY Villa team has been a powerhouse in the Clarence Valley Biggest Loser competitions over the past two years.

The team has taken out the team prizes in 2010 and 2011 as well as turning out the two individual winners, Ros Houlahan (2010) and Annie Hackett (2011).

Competitors began weighing in on Saturday for the 2012 competition, which this year encompasses the Lower Clarence for the first time.

Ms Houlahan said the event looked to be growing in size, with more than 95 contestants having registered in Grafton alone when she weighed in on Saturday.

"They were weighing people down river as well, so I'm sure it's going to be a big event this year," she said.

Ms Houlahan said the organisers, Grafton Midday and Maclean Rotary clubs, deserved praise for organising the competition.

She also praised fitness groups XPlode Training and Bodyrock Fitness for their support and training of contestants.

"Biggest Loser has been a great experience for us at Dougherty Villa," she said.

Contestants are permitted to weigh in and enter for the rest of the week.
