Teen guilty of assault

A 19-YEAR-old man, who barely struck a blow against his victim, was found guilty of common assault when he appeared before Grafton Local Court yesterday.

Timothy James Maguire, of Bacon Street, Grafton, was given a nine-month good behaviour bond for his part in the assault of a man at a birthday party at Southgate on September 26 last year.

Police said Maguire and another man approached two people near a car outside the house hosting the party.

An argument ensued and the other assailant punched the victim in the face, knocking him to the ground. He continued the assault, punching the man several times in the head.

When the victim’s friend attempted to intervene, the accused held him back.

Magistrate Kim Pogson said Maguire was just as guilty of assault as the assailant by standing back and watching as if he had taken part.
