Police confirm they fired shots that killed armed teen

UPDATE: 

Police have confirmed they shot a knife-wielding woman dead outside Hungry Jack's in western Sydney.   

NSW Police say the woman was assessed by ambulance paramedics but died at the scene.  

Her age is yet to be confirmed, but witnesses say she was around 16 or 17 years old.   

A team from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad and investigators from South West Metropolitan Region are investigating the incident, and the investigation will be overseen by the Professional Standards Command.

[11:50 AM ] Teen girl shot dead by police at Sydney Hungry Jacks

A TEENAGE girl has been shot dead outside a Hungry Jacks in Sydney's western suburbs.

Seven News is reporting the young woman was shot by police after entering the fast food outlet armed with a butcher's knife and threatened those inside.

It is also reporting that police attempted to subdue the teenager with a Taser.

Sources have described the girl as aged either 16 or 17 years old.

New South Wales Ambulance was called to the scene at West Hoxton with reports of a gunshot wound.

The young woman died, despite attempts by emergency services to revive her.
