Telstra customers set free again
SUNDAY will be another free data day for Telstra customers as compensation for its latest outage last month, which left eight million people without mobile phone or internet services.
The latest free data day is the second for Australia's largest telco, with the first announced in February after a human error caused a massive outage in Telstra's mobile network.
Last free data day, Telstra said in a statement it was their busiest day ever recorded on their network, with twice the data traffic of a normal day. Users downloaded 1, 841 terabytes of data, which equated to around 2.3 million movies.
The mobile phone and internet outage on March 18 was caused by an international roaming problem that had flow-on effects in Australia, Telstra chief executive officer Andy Penn said.
"I'm sincerely sorry to all of our customers. I know today how much you rely on the network and how much you rely on the reliability of the network," he said after the outage.
