THE Lasker family say they can't catch a lucky break after their car was stolen on the 12 month anniversary of laying their murdered son to rest.

John Lasker was tired at the end of a long day in his tow truck business when he parked his 2004 dual cab Holden Commodore ute in front of his Hogg St home on Saturday afternoon.

He woke on Sunday morning to a front yard minus the red v8.

Saturday marked a year since he and wife Joanne laid their son Jake to rest.

Jake was stabbed to death on November 7 last year.

"I didn't even hear it start up and go," Mr Lasker said.

His neighbours told him they heard the ute roaring away about 11.30pm Saturday.

"If we don't have bad luck we don't have any luck at all."

It has been 12 months since Jake Lasker's funeral.
