Urgent need for 200 Salvation Army volunteers
THE Salvation Army has an urgent need for 200 volunteers in the Clarence Valley to help collect donations for the 2016 Red Shield Appeal Door Knock.
According to the Salvation Army's Clarence Valley representative Rowan Johnstone, by volunteering time or donating to the Red Shield Appeal, local people are able to do their part and help make a positive difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
In the past six months alone, the Salvation Army has assisted 2000 people through the homeless and accommodation support services, he said.
"Whether it be through homelessness and crisis accommodation services, recovery and welfare services, The Salvation Army is there to give hope where it's needed most."
Last year the Red Shield Appeal Door Knock enabled The Salvation Army to support over 500 people, every week, through recovery services throughout Australia Red Shield Appeal funds go directly to support these and other social programs.
Which is why, in 2016, The Salvation Army need as many volunteer collectors as possible throughout the Clarence Valley.
Volunteers can have a fun few hours with family or friends doing the door knock through local streets, or they can choose a community collection point in a local shopping centre or key locations near where they live.
"We are calling our volunteers Hope Givers this year, as they are much more to us than someone giving of their time for a cause," Mr Johnstone said.
"They are literally changing lives with us. Every hour they are able to collect for us means more money to buy food to put in people's mouths when they are hungry, beds for those at night that don't have them, or support for a parent and their children fleeing a violent situation. Every dollar raised makes a difference."
The Red Shield Appeal door knock will run from May 23 - June 5 and Clarence Valley residents will be called in April to see if they can give a few hours of their time to help The Salvation Army to raise the much needed funds.
