They’re cream of crop

IT WASN'T just all hairspray, chiffon and fence posts at the judging of the 2015 Zone 1 Showgirl title at Yamba Bowling Club on Saturday night.

The winning finalists from the nominated 15 were Lismore's Ellie Stephens and Murwillumbah's Ema Marks.

Also included in the judging were Grafton's Showgirl, JoJo Newby and Maclean's representative, Melissa Stains.

The Zone 1 Showgirl co-ordinator, Maclean Show Society's Nancy Brown, was over the moon with how the night turned out.

"We had 165 guests who travelled from Taree through to Tweed Heads," Mrs Brown said.

"For Maclean Show Society to host this prestigious event we had to apply two years ago.

"And to host this event here in the Lower Clarence for the first time was a dream come true."

The Showgirl contest is not a beauty pageant.

"The women are interviewed on their knowledge, how they contribute to the community and their general understanding of rural and regional Australia," Mrs Brown said.

"The three judges said everyone was worthy of winning and it was a really hard decision to pick two."
