This man may assist robbery probe

POLICE believe this man could assist them as they continue to search for the thugs responsible for the violent armed robbery at Yamba Golf Club last month.

Officers investigating the January 4 incident, in which a golf club employee was attacked by four men with a fire extinguisher and other implements, released the CCTV image yesterday.

At about 1am on January 4, four intruders smashed their way into the club through a glass panel on a back door. Upon entering the golf club, the intruders charged the employees and threw rocks and pieces of brick at them.

Three of the employees ran through a door leading into a storeroom. Police said while one of the employees attempted to close the door, the other two staff members escaped outside and ran for help.

Police said the offenders smashed through the door using a concrete block and then caught and bashed the fleeing staff member, who had fallen to the ground outside in the loading bay.

The employee was left with a fractured leg (tibia), broken right thumb, an open head wound and extensive bruising to his ribs and body and spent some time in Lismore Base Hospital for treatment. His wallet and keys were stolen and the perpetrators fled on foot.

Police said the four attackers were described as wearing long pants, hooded tops and gloves at the time of the crime.

Anyone with information about the man depicted in the CCTV image, or with information about the armed robbery, is urged to contact Grafton police on 6642 0222.
