Three charged over savage assault

POLICE have charged three people following the severe bashing of a 44-year-old man outside a Coraki hotel on Friday night.

The incident occurred around midnight, where the man was allegedly threatened with a Jim Beam bottle before being assaulted, knocked to the ground, then kicked in the head and body.

Another 54-year-old man was also allegedly assaulted and knocked to the ground before being kicked and punched.

Hotel staff were also allegedly assaulted when they tried to go to the assistance of the two men.

Police said the 44-year-old victim was taken to hospital with a broken nose and damaged eye socket.

The 54-year-old victim received cuts and abrasions.

Investigations manager Detective Sergeant Crotty said Woodburn Police made three arrests.

A man and two youths from Coraki were taken to Lismore Police Station where they were charged.

A 29-year-old man and a girl aged 15 were charged with affray, while a boy aged 17 was charged with affray and being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Police said all three received bail and are to appear before Lismore Local Court and Lismore Children's Court in November and December.

Inquiries into the incident are continuing.
