Three in a row for Grafton in State League

CONGRATULATIONS to our State League team who took the Far North Coast Division One title for the third year in a row.

The girls played through the preliminary rounds undefeated, using their winning combinations and positioning to steal the title from Ballina in the final game.

After holding a one-goal lead into the second quarter, Grafton capitalised on Ballina's faults to turn the game in their favour, ultimately winning 56 to 38.

Samantha Austin, Jasmine Rimene and Ashley King proved to be a tight-knit defensive unit. Young defensive player Zali Webb made her State League debut this year and proved a powerful asset, keeping the veteran players on their toes.

Mid-court players Bianca Dougherty and Jacynta Stoker played a major part in bringing the ball down the court to shooting partnership Amy Jones and Heidi Dalton, who brilliantly utilised their space and skill to put the team in the lead.

Karlie Chevalley also joined the team for the first time this year, stepping onto the court for the last quarter alongside Stephanie Elliott and Kirby Danvers to solidify the result.

Coach Kim Blinman, assistant coach Tammy Thompson and manager Fiona Gordon are extremely proud of the team, who now travel to Sydney in September to match up against winning teams from other regions in NSW.
