Three tenderers shortlisted for second Grafton bridge

THREE contractors have been shortlisted to design and build the second Grafton bridge.

"In May this year, Roads and Maritime Services called for companies to register interest in the delivery of a new 553 metre long structure and associated road upgrades," Member for Clarence Chris Gulaptis said.

"Nine contractors applied and Lend Lease Engineering Pty Ltd, a joint venture between Rizzani de Eccher Australia Pty Ltd and Seymour Whyte Constructions Pty Ltd and Fulton Hogan Construction Pty Ltd have been shortlisted.

"The shortlisted contractors will now be invited to make a detailed submission before a final decision on the most suitable tenderer is reached.

"The successful tenderer will deliver the detailed design and bridge building as well as local road network upgrades, flood mitigation and construction of a new pedestrian and cycle path."

Mr Gulaptis said the successful tenderer will be announced early next year.

"Early work to ensure the new bridge is adequately connected to the local road network is on track to be complete later this year," he said.

"Geotechnical work was completed in June 2015 and work is progressing on environmental assessments and utility investigations."
