Thunder roared at Port Macquarie, but not in skies
The Grids were up, the pits were filled and spectators anxiously waiting on the 5 second board to go down, signaling the riders into action!
The first round of the North Coast Motocross series went into full swing on Sunday resulting in amazing talent on display from the young 50cc riders to the more experienced senior riders giving a taste of what is to come in the following rounds.
Riders travelled from near and far to compete and gain points towards their respective class North Coast Champion.
Great to see riders come from as far north as Sunshine Coast and as far south as Cessnock supporting their series!
The dirt flew, tabletops cleared and the perfect line on the track sought as the senior riders pitted their skills against their fellow riders and took on the challenge of the Overall North Coast Champion and prize money.
Unofficial results are in with Damon Batterson taking out first place in this round, closely followed by Jacob McLeod taking second place and in third place James Avery, These are yet to be confirmed by Motorcycling NSW.
Hosting Club for round1, Hastings Valley Motorcycle Club, must be congratulated for offering a well prepared track which suited all skills, while ensuring the mini champs on their 50cc's could test their own skills on a shorter course, while enjoying the thrill of riding in the series.
Junior riders took to the track with the adrenaline and skill of seasoned competitors, giving the spectators and other riders a display of incredible talent. Official results for round 1 will be uploaded to the North Coast Series site once confirmed by Motorcycling NSW.
The general consensus from the spectator area is one of awe and amazement at the skills and talent the riders put on display.
The athletic and analytical split second thinking ability required for this type of sport is phenomenally overlooked; it can be hard on the body while the riders push the boundaries of their skills. Talking to riders throughout the season; it becomes evident that a good cardiovascular fitness and quick decision making are required to compete at this level of competition.
The grids are filling up for the next round to be hosted by the South Grafton Ex-Services Motorcycle Club on the 6th September. This is looking to be an adrenaline pack, talent filled round!
