King of Coolum

Thundercat crews go to extremes to be King

THE action was fast and furious at Coolum as Australasia's best Thundercat crews took to the water for the second annual King of Coolum Thundercat Race.

The extreme version of IRB (inflatable rescue boat) racing features 4.1-metre-long inflatable catamaran-style surf boats that can reach speeds of 90kmh and jump six metres in the air.

With Australia's National Thundercat series defunct, the King Of Coolum two-day event has now become Australia's premier Thundercat race and crews travelled from across the state to take part.
