Tigers ready to roar

THE Grafton Tigers Australian Rules Football Club’s under-11s and 13s started the year with a taste of the big time – a trip to Coffs Harbour to see the Sydney Swans do battle with St Kilda in the final round of the NAB Challenge, the AFL’s pre-season competition.

Undoubtedly, the highlight of the game for the Tigers was running out onto the field to play in the half-time Auskick match.

The young cubs rose to the occasion and comfortably defeated their opponents in front of a roaring crowd.

The Tigers have been training hard and are looking forward to their first match of the season at JJ Lawrence Field, South Grafton, tomorrow.

The Tigers will play the Lower Clarence Eagles in the local derby with both teams keen to open their accounts with a win.

The under-11s game is at 9.45am, followed by the under-13s at 10.45am.

The cubs are still looking to recruit players in both the under-11s and 13s so if your cub is looking to play AFL, contact Wayne Phillips on 0409 459 565.

Alternatively call down to JJ Lawrence tomorrow and sign up.

The cubs train at Lower Fisher Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-6pm.

The Tigers are looking to have a great year in 2011, with a number of highlights including the opening of the new oval and change rooms at Upper Fisher Park, due in June-July, and a trip to the new-look Gold Coast Stadium scheduled for August where they will play in the half-time Auskick match when the Gold Coast Suns take on the Adelaide Crows.
