Time to pick up sticks for hockey season

THE hockey season is back.

The under-16s got the Grafton Hockey Association off to a brilliant start last night with the other junior grades and seniors set to have their time in the sun this weekend.

There have been a few changes made to the format of the competitions this season:

  • U7s, U9s and U11s play to the new NSW Hockey "Stick2 Hockey" format.

Stick2Hockey provides young hockey participants a fun introduction to the game and a development pathway through the age groups.

More information is available at www.hockeynsw.com.au/Development/Stick-2-Hockey.

  • U15s revert to an U16 competition.
  • The U18s competition has been removed.
  • The senior grades have been renamed, with Premier League, Reserve Grade, Third Grade and the new Fourth Grade competitions replacing A, B and C Grade.

The biggest change to the senior grade is the mid-season competition against Far North Coast teams.

The eight-week competition will debut this year.

The announcement has been welcomed by both players and officials as a way to strengthen each region and give local players a new challenge.
