Time to try for tri squad

THE North Coast Academy of Sport is calling for applications for the 2010 triathlon squad.

Triathlon Australia National Talent Identification and Development coach Grant Giles will again be the NCAS triathlon head coach.

No triathlon experience is necessary to apply for the program.

Squad numbers are limited, with athletes being considered for differing levels of support depending on their age, results and potential.

The NCAS program is designed to offer training and competition support to athletes residing on the North Coast, as well as identifying and developing new talent into these programs.

Selection trials will be held in two locations to ensure that everyone on the north coast has an opportunity to trial:

Date: Saturday, April, 10/ Sunday, April 11

Time: 6am

Venue: Chikiba Boatshed (corner Links and Coast Road, Ballina)/ Coffs Harbour Tri Club: Sprint Race

Format: 400m swim, 13km cycle, 3km run/ 300m swim, 9.5km cycle, 2.5km run

Cost: $20

To be eligible to trial, athletes must reside on the North Coast (Tweed Heads to Laurieton and west to the foothills of the Great Dividing Range).

Even if you are not proficient in all these disciplines you are encouraged to trial.

You will need a road or mountain bike with an Australian Standards Approved helmet; running shoes, water bottle and swim gear. If you cannot undertake all the disciplines, the coaches may consider your standards and potential from the other events.
