Search continues for men who held up service station

POLICE are searching for two men who held up a South Grafton service station in the early hours of yesterday morning.

About 1.40am on Monday, two males wearing long-sleeved hooded tops and items of clothing over their faces entered the United Service Station on Schwinghammer St in South Grafton.

Armed with "tool-type implements", police said the pair demanded a quantity of cash from a 47-year-old staff member behind the counter.

The attendant complied with the request, and after taking the cash and items from the store, the offenders fled on foot.

A teenage male was also in the store at the time. Luckily, no-one was injured.

Coffs/Clarence Police Detective (acting) Inspector Aaron Van Schaik said police arrived soon after to establish a crime scene and conduct a canvas of the area.

Forensics have since examined the scene and it is believed the incident was also captured on CCTV.

Detective Van Schaik said officers were now looking for any witnesses who may have been in the area or driving through around that time.

Both offenders have been described as being Caucasian in appearance, of medium build and about 170-175cm tall.

"Police are very concerned about this incident very serious matter and Grafton detectives are actively investigating and will continue to do so with intention of apprehending offenders in the matter," Detective Van Schaik said.

"We believe there were a few vehicles in the area at the time and we appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact Grafton detectives immediately."

Anyone with information on this incident can phone Grafton police on 6642 0222 or CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
