TOOWOOMBA builder McNab Constructions has been selected to redevelop the upcoming $5 million Shell Coles Express service station.

Up to 40 staff and subcontractors will work at the site on the intersection of Ruthven and Alderley Sts for the next six months to build an eight bowser fuel station, drive-through coffee shop and takeaway store.

McNab regional construction manager Joris Eerkens praised the design approved by Hallmark Property for its practicality and aesthetics.

"The new Shell service station layouts and designs are fantastic both from a practical and aesthetic view and you can't beat the location," he said.

"We think the client has been very smart to also include a Coles express, food and a drive through coffee tenant.

"We're delighted to have been selected to design and construct this project for Hallmark Property.

"We have projects all over Queensland and are very grateful when our team can work on projects in their home town."

McNab built the first Woolworths Plus service station in the state and has built more than 20 servos across Queensland and NSW, including the Plainlands Travel Centre between Toowoomba and Brisbane.

Toowoomba-owned businesses Pump@123 and Stoney the Fishmonger were awarded the leases at the site.

Hallmark will also keep the fuel station open 24 hours a day, seven days a week once re-opened.

"Shell and Coles Express have committed to leasing the redeveloped site for a further 15-year term, demonstrating their commitment to its ongoing success," spokesman Heath Knox said last month.

"Shell Coles Express is a valued brand in Toowoomba."

The station is expected to re-open in September.
