Top coach on the ball

FORMER professional basketball and experienced coach Jay Washington dropped into Raymond Laurie Sports Centre to host an all-ages clinic.

Washington hails from Sacramento, California, and often works out NBA team Golden State Warriors, which features Australian Andrew Bogut, and the Sacramento Kings.

A terrific turnout, which included Yamba Trawler representatives Cooper Daley, Max and Jack Leary, Alby Popko, Sage Hale, Bayden Toyer and Ryan Hubbard and more than 50 kids in total, turned up to learn new skills off the high-profile athlete.

After a warm-up and dribbling exercises, Washington took the older group and the younger group went with Michael Willemsen.

Washington led the older group through some defensive drills. After 40 minutes of pain, many were struggling to walk.
