Students prepare for Lions final

TWO STUDENTS from Maclean High School, Lillian Shearman and Alice Batcheldor, will be representing their local Lions Club on Saturday night in the regional final of the Lions Youth of the Year Quest to be held at Bonville.

The winner of that final will progress on to the district and possibly state and national finals.

Earlier this year, nine contestants from Maclean High School were interviewed by a panel of three judges and assessed for their leadership, citizenship, sporting and community involvement, as well as their public speaking skills.

The aim of the program, according to Youth Project chairperson Deyann McDonnell, is to give young people valuable exposure to interview skills, increase their self-confidence and ultimately provide them with an opportunity to shine.

“It’s a wonderful program for young people,” said Mrs McDonnell.

“Having this sort of recognition on their C.V. will also assist them when they are looking for work. We wish the girls luck in the coming finals.”
